ZEEWAARTS
Zeewaarts focust zich op een gebied dat me uitermate boeit: de Belgische kust.
Het kustlandschap zal aanzienlijk veranderen door een verwachte stijging van de zeespiegel en langdurige neerslagperiodes.
Een verwachte stijging van de zeewaterspiegel met 1 tot 3 meter zal voor het kustgebied, significante gevolgen hebben. De Belgische overheid, wil de kustzone de volgende 100 jaar vrijwaren van overstromingen, door het verbreden van stranden, het inplannen van hogere dijken en het behouden of herstellen van duinenzones. Een zeewaartse aanpak voor de kust dus.
Ik ben een fotografe met een heilige nieuwsgierigheid. Sinds juni 2023 volg ik de restauratie van een iconisch Grand Hotel in Nieuwpoort. Het Grand werd gebombardeerd in de beide wereldoorlogen. Men vatte echter recent het plan op, dit pand te restaureren. Dat project geeft me de mogelijkheid om 100 jaar terug in de tijd te kijken. Ik beschouw dit Grand Hotel, een oude witte dame, als een metafoor voor de Belgische kust in heden, verleden en toekomst.
De vlietende tijd kan een mens en zijn plek elimineren. Ik volg het kustlandschap in documentaire, conceptuele series. Kan het versnipperde, chaotische landschap van de Belgische kust geordend worden? Ik ga op zoek naar orde en structuur, probeer chaos te grijpen… te begrijpen, via sequenties en beeldenreeksen. Ik fotografeerde zowel in 2023, 2024 als in 2025 aan de Zeewaarts series.

SEAWARD
My Seaward series focus on the Belgian coast. The coastal landscape will be changed by the expected rising of the sealevel. An expected rising of the sea with approximately 1 to 3 meter will have significant consequences. The Belgian government wants to protect the coast the coming 100 years from flooding by broadening beaches, constructing higher dykes and keeping and restoring ranges of dunes. A so called seaward approach.
I am a photographer with a holy curiosity for this ongoing process. Since medio 2023, I follow the restauration of a Grand Hotel in Nieuwpoort. The Grand was bombed in both world wars. Recently plans were made to restore this iconic building. This gives me the opportunity to look back in time. I consider this Grand Hotel, an old white lady, as a metaphor for the Belgian coast in the present, the past and the future. Fleeing times can erase a person and his landscape.and locations.
I follow the Belgian coastal landscape in documentary conceptual series. Wondering …can this chaotic, split up area be organised? In my Seaward series I am searching for structure and order, trying to get a hold on chaos, making photo sequences of the Belgian coast landscape. I progressed from medio 2023 onward, and continu in 2025.
